Objectified Movie

  • Objectified is documentary film regarding the role of everyday nonliving objects, and the people who design them in our daily lives.
  • It was directed by Gary Hustiwit, it is released in 2009.
  • This is about importance of design in objects which we use in our daily lives.

  • We are using number of objects in our daily lives, like from toothpicks to electronic gadgets.
  • Just look behind everything of object, how they work or how they designed .
  • It's about the designers who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a daily basis. It's about personal experience, identity, consumerism, and sustainability.
Important factors in design:
  • Hierarchy is very important in every design.
  • On an average in a day we use hundreds of objects.
  • If you are a designer or designing something you have to think like, why this design is like this and why the design is not like that. So, in that sense you make a design constantly.

  • The design should be always creative, responsive and innovative.
  • When we designing a product we have to look different attributes of that products.
  • Any designing should be done by thinking like a customer or user which means what they need.
  • If you designed something, it should be easy to use, comfortable, impressive and it should be perfect for every one.

This movie has interviews with popular designers in the world. They are:
  • Dieter Rams - Former Design Director, Braun (Kronberg, Germany)
  • Jonathan Ive - Senior VP Industrial Design, Apple (Cupertino)
  • Chris Bangle - Former Design Director, BMW Group (Munich)
  • Alice Rawsthorn - Design Editor, International Herald Tribune
  • Andrew  Blauvelt - Design Curator, Walker Art Center
  • Dan Formosa - Design & Research, Smart Design (New York)
Principles of "Good Design":
  • Every design should follow some basic principles like shown below.
Examples:
  • Roomba robotics vacuum cleaner

  •  A chair made of grass must be grown and then trimmed and watered by its owner in order to remain functional.
